K-12 Science Curriculum Dissemination Center: The National Science Foundation has funded Education Development Center Inc. (EDC), a nonprofit research and development organization in Newton, MA, to establish a K-12 Science Curriculum Dissemination Center in order to advance the use of NSF-supported science curriculum materials across the nation. To accomplish this, EDC has established 10 hubs around the country to serve the school districts in their regions including one in Portland, Oregon. The Center's goal is to help participating school districts to learn about exemplary science curriculum materials for secondary, middle, and elementary school students. PBS TeacherSource: This web site contains an extensive inventory of lessons and activities in science and technology for students from preschool-12. Scienceline explores scientific inquiry in the context of the teaching and assessment standards. Exploratorium Science Snacks On-Line: Miniature science exhibits that teachers and students can make using common, inexpensive, easily available materials. Environmental Defense Fund Scorecard: This EDF web site contains pollution information for any area of the United States. Simply type in your zip code in the box under "Find Your Community" to find out what kinds of pollution are present in your community and their sources. Toyota Tapestry Grants: The Toyota TAPESTRY program awards 50 grants of up to $10,000 each and a minimum of 20 "mini-grants" of $2,500 each to K-12 science teachers. Interested teachers should propose innovative science projects that can be implemented in their school or school district over a one-year period. Toyota TAPESTRY projects demonstrate creativity, involve risk-taking, possess a visionary quality, and model a novel way of presenting science. Skyscopers: Skyscopers is a community children's astronomy club based in Corvallis, Oregon. The club is aimed at, but not strictly confined to, third through sixth grade students.
